Large Component Machining From Nidec Minster

Nidec Minster Offers Manufacturing Services with Installation of Large Capacity Precision Machining Center

MINSTER, OH — One of the largest, and most precise, machining centers in North America is now producing parts at Nidec Minster’s headquarters in west central Ohio.

As part of a $30 million expansion to its production facility, Nidec Minster has installed the first of two Pama Vertiram 3000 TT Bridge Mills.

Capable of high accuracy, five-sided machining of heavy components, the Pama Vertiram has been highly customized to include two 4000mm x 7000mm tables with 10 spindle units including vertical, right angle, and universal configurations. The table weight capacity will hold up to 100 tons.

“The Pama’s size, rigidity, accuracy, and customized spindle units really set this machine apart from others,” said Nidec Minster Senior Director of Operations Ben Young. “This equipment is the latest in machining technology. It is extremely unique and its capabilities are hard to find.”

With the increased capacities and capabilities, Nidec Minster is able to offer contract manufacturing services to customers requiring large precision components.

The first Pama has been installed in the recently-completed 23,900 sq. ft addition to Nidec Minster’s machining bay, which converted the production area to a climate-controlled facility, part of Nidec Minster’s commitment to the best possible quality in the machining of large press components where tolerances need to be held to within 0.001″.

Work has begun on the foundation for the second, identical, Pama Vertiram 3000 TT Bridge Mill which should be ready for production by summer 2026

“These new machines have positioned Nidec Minster to be capable of producing larger components with high accuracy and improved efficiency,” Young said.

Contract Manufacturing Sales Manager John MacDonald said that while Nidec Minster has a wide range of machining assets, the focus for outside work will be on the larger more complex components.

“Our facility is equipped with a comprehensive range of precision machining equipment, enabling us to handle complex and large-scale components with exceptional accuracy,” MacDonald said. “And with our fabrication facility and value-added processes, we are able to offer turnkey solutions.”

Nidec Minster’s 39,000 sq. ft. weld shop is fully equipped to handle heavy fabrication and complex welding projects with the following capabilities: weld positioning; plate burning; heat treating; advanced welding processes; and heavy weldment handling up to 80 tons.

Customers that are looking for heavy fabrication and/or machining services can reach out to MacDonald (John.MacDonald@minster.com) or contact Nidec Minster directly to learn more about our available capacity and to receive a quote.

With more than 430 employees at its Ohio location, Nidec Minster is also the world headquarters for Nidec Press & Automation, an integrated group of six product brands with 13 global locations.
